Tripura Government To Take Measures for Heat Wave

Guwahati: As the northeastern states are experiencing heat wave. Tripura is also currently experiencing a brutal heatwave which has caused the state government to take preventative action to safeguard the citizens. The heatwave, sunstroke and sunburn have been designated as State Specific Disasters and the government has ordered all eight District Magistrates and Collectors in the state to take preventative action.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recently released a report predicting that the current hot weather conditions will last for few days. As well as warnings from the medical community about the potential risks of sun exposure such as the chance of sun strokes. Reports have documented the negative effects of the heatwave on daily living, workplace and commercial activities.

To guarantee the safety of children and staff, the Tripura state government has stated that schools will be closed from April 17 to April 23, 2023.

Additionally, the government has ordered all District Magistrates and Collectors to launch significant public awareness campaigns through a variety of media outlets to inform the public about the dangers of the heatwave and offer advice on protective measures.

The district officials are actively monitoring and disseminating the IMD’s daily weather reports which include safety advice for important stakeholders and the general public.

The government has also emphasised the importance of providing enough drinking water, installing shades in public spaces and providing medical assistance to handle heat-related health hazards.

Quick Response Teams and Emergency Operation Centres have been activated to respond quickly to any heat-related issues. To lessen any inconveniences brought on by the heatwave, an uninterrupted power supply is being assured in all locations. The district officials have also been directed by the government to work in conjunction with other significant organisations as required to guarantee the safety and security of Tripuran inhabitants.

For record-keeping purposes, the District Magistrates and Collectors are expected to submit an action taken report to the Department outlining the steps done to control the heatwave and lessen its effects on the local populace.
