Guwahati: Manik Saha has been announced the next Chief Minister of Tripura on Saturday. He will succeed Biplab Kumar Deb, who earlier in the day presented his resignation to the governor.
Saha was the head of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Tripura state branch. He also served as a BJP Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.
He was the party’s candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections in Tripura earlier this year, where he faced CPI (M) candidate Bhanulal Saha.
It may be noted that Governor S N Arya accepted Biplab Kumar Deb’s resignation earlier today. His departure came a year before the state’s elections.
