Tripura: NFR Suspends TTE Amid Allegations of Assault on Woman Passenger

Northeast Desk, 18th May: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has taken swift action, suspending a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) following allegations of assault against a female passenger aboard a train. The incident unfolded on Tuesday during a journey from New Haflong (Assam) to Agartala, sparking outrage as video footage of the altercation circulated on social media platforms.

Railway sources revealed that the confrontation erupted during a routine ticket inspection conducted by the accused TTE. Recorded by a fellow passenger, the video depicts a heated exchange between the woman and the TTE, culminating in the latter allegedly pushing her.

Despite the video’s viral spread, the woman involved chose not to file a formal complaint with railway authorities or law enforcement agencies. Railway officials have refrained from divulging specifics surrounding the altercation.

Reacting to the incident, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the CPI-M, took proactive steps by submitting a deputation to the manager of Agartala Railway Station. Nabarun Deb, a DYFI leader, expressed deep concern over the safety of female passengers, drawing parallels between the incident and the government’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative.

Deb emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “While the Central government advocates ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,’ a TTE is accused of assaulting a woman passenger on a moving train. The safety of women is under scrutiny, prompting our demand for action against the TTE.”
