Tripura Police Seize Rs 10 Lakh Worth of Cannabis; Three Arrested in Ambassa Raid

Northeast Desk, 25th July: Tripura Police have confiscated cannabis worth Rs 10 lakh and arrested three individuals following a late-night operation in Ambassa, Dhalai District, on Thursday.

The operation commenced late Wednesday night after receiving a tip-off about cannabis smuggling. Police set up a checkpoint at Der Mail area in Ambassa and stopped two vehicles—a Mahindra TUV 300 (registration number TR 01 B Y 0664) and a Tata Punch (registration number TR 01 B W 662).

During the search of the Mahindra TUV 300, officers uncovered 97 kg of cannabis concealed in a secret compartment under the vehicle. The cannabis was packed into 190 packets of various sizes.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nirupam Datta and Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gurupada Debnath of Ambassa Police Station were promptly dispatched to the scene.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Sujit Kumar Munda (29), Poithak Debbarma (27), and Rahin Debbarma (20). The seized cannabis is estimated to have a market value of Rs 10 lakh.
