Tripura: Six Detained Including Five Bangladeshis at Agartala Station
Guwahati, 29th January: On Sunday, a team from the Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals and their guide at Agartala station. Acting on a tip-off, the GRP team detained the six individuals for suspicious movement around 1.30 pm.
Upon preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that five of the detainees lacked valid documents, leading to their immediate arrest. The officer-in-charge of the GRP station, Sanjit Sen, stated that Roming Rashid Khan, a resident of Maharashtra guiding the Bangladeshi nationals, was also taken into custody.
Roming Rashid Khan claimed to have a garment business in Maharashtra and intended to employ the five Bangladeshi nationals as laborers. The police plan to interrogate him to ascertain if any local tout is involved in the matter.
This incident follows an announcement by the Border Security Force (BSF) earlier this month, stating that they had handed over a Bangladeshi national to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) who had inadvertently crossed the international border. The individual, found to be of unsound mind, entered Indian territory in the South Garo Hills area on June 10, 2023. The BSF, as a goodwill gesture, returned the individual to the BGB.
