Tripura State Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind Condemns Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, Calls for Protection of Minorities

Northeast Desk, 12th August: The Tripura State Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind has strongly condemned the recent alleged atrocities against minority Hindus in Bangladesh, urging for immediate measures to ensure the safety and security of minority communities in the neighboring country. In a statement issued by its President, Mufti Tayebur Rahman, the organization expressed deep concern over the reports of violence that surfaced following the departure of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024.

Mufti Rahman highlighted alarming reports of attacks on minorities, including brutal killings, looting, arson, and assaults on temples. He emphasized that despite these disturbing incidents, many members of the Muslim majority, including madrassa students, have actively worked to protect minority homes and religious institutions.

“We strongly condemn these attacks and call for the immediate protection of the minority Hindus in Bangladesh. As Muslims, it is our duty to stand with our neighbors in both their happiness and sorrows, ensuring their rights and safety,” Mufti Rahman stated.

He also appealed to all communities in Bangladesh, particularly the Muslim population, to uphold the safety and rights of minorities, emphasizing the importance of religious harmony. Mufti Rahman further called on the interim government of Bangladesh to take decisive action against the perpetrators, ensuring peace and restoring the rights of minority citizens.

“We demand that the interim government of Bangladesh restore the rights of minority citizens, including conducting thorough investigations into each case of persecution. It is imperative that the government cracks down on those responsible and maintains law and order,” he added.

The Tripura State Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind’s statement underscores the need for global efforts to protect minority rights and prevent religious discrimination, urging the international community to ensure that minority communities are free from persecution and guaranteed their socio-economic and religious rights.
