Northeast Desk, 12th August: In Tripura’s Gomati district, a government school teacher died following an assault by a mob in Udaipur town. The teacher, accused of molesting a minor girl during a private tuition session, was attacked by local residents on August 8.
According to police sources, after the alleged molestation, the teacher was brought to RK Pur police station in the presence of his wife, where a formal complaint was filed. Following the incident, he was admitted to a local health center on medical advice and later secured bail from a local court.
However, after returning home, the teacher fell ill and was subsequently admitted to GBP Hospital in Agartala, where he died during treatment on August 10. The incident has sparked significant public concern, with local Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy condemning the mob violence and asserting that the police would pursue legal action against those involved.
The police have initiated an investigation into the case, focusing on the circumstances surrounding the assault and the teacher’s subsequent death. No arrests have been made as of yet.
