Tripura: Third Suspect Arrested in Agartala Social Club Secretary Murder Case

Northeast Desk, 6th May: Tripura Police have apprehended Birchakra Ghosh from West Bengal in connection with the sensational murder of social club secretary Durga Prasanna Deb in Agartala.

Deb was fatally shot in the Hati Para area of Agartala at point-blank range, sparking an intensive investigation by law enforcement authorities.

Following the murder, Tripura Police initially arrested two individuals, including a woman, who were remanded to police custody until May 7. Subsequently, a team led by West District Additional Superintendent of Police (Urban) Chiranjib Chakraborty traveled to West Bengal and apprehended the third suspect in Kolkata.

The suspect was brought back to Agartala and is scheduled to be produced before the court to seek further police remand for interrogation.

Earlier, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of West District remanded two individuals, including a woman, to police custody until May 7 in connection with the murder of Durga Prasanna Deb, popularly known as Viki, who served as the secretary of the Bharat Ratna Sangha club in Agartala.

The Bharat Ratna Sangha Club, the largest social club in Tripura, was left reeling from the loss of Deb, whose murder sent shockwaves through the community.

Advocate Indrajit Biswas disclosed that the incident occurred on April 30 near Hati Para in the Sal Bagan area of Agartala. Pradyot Dhar Chowdhury (65) was initially arrested in connection with the murder and subsequently brought before Chief Judicial Magistrate Saikat Das after three days in police custody. Further investigations led to the involvement of Sushmita Sarkar (22), a resident of Bhubanban in Agartala, as revealed during interrogation.
