Tripura: Timber Mafia attacked forest workers in Telimura, 3 injured

Guwahati: At least three forest workers were critically injured after timber mafias attacked them in the Shalbagan area under the Mungiakami police station in the Teliamura sub-division of Tripura.

On the basis of secret intelligence, the staff of the Teliamura sub-divisional forest department went to raid a secret hideout of the illegal wood mafia in the Shalbagan area.

According to reports, a group of 50 to 60 smugglers attacked them as the forest workers arrived at the spot, injuring at least three of them.

The injured identified as Shankar Gowala was critically injured and rushed to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Reportedly, Gowala has suffered significant brain injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

However, the doctors referred him to the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GBP) in Kunjaban Township of Agartala for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the Forest Department has seized a Maruti van that was transporting illicit timber, as well as a motorcycle related to the robbers.
