Tripura to Establish Cyber Crime Police Station to Combat Rising Cases
Agartala, Tripura – A dedicated cyber crime police station will soon be established in Tripura, as announced by Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan on Wednesday.
This initiative aims to enhance the state’s capability in effectively addressing cyber crime incidents.
During a press conference, Ranjan emphasized that with the mass surrender of militants from the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), insurgency in Tripura is now considered a closed chapter.
He highlighted the need for the state police to shift focus towards community policing and the monitoring of law and order, particularly in urban areas where crime and extremism are emerging concerns.
To tackle these new challenges, the DGP revealed plans for specialized training for personnel of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), who previously concentrated on insurgency issues. Ranjan noted, “We will push for specialist training for TSR personnel to upgrade their skills, collaborating with forces such as the National Security Guard (NSG) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).”
Efforts to modernize the state police force are underway, with Ranjan stating that the government is procuring modern equipment under central modernization schemes. “We will set up a cyber crime police station to deal with cyber crime cases effectively. The police have been performing well in handling cyber fraud cases,” he added.
Additionally, Ranjan mentioned that six companies of the TSR will be deployed to Maharashtra and Jharkhand for election-related duties, noting, “The Centre had sought 15 companies for election duties, but we agreed to send six companies due to the prevailing situation in the state. They will leave after Diwali.”
