Two detain For Poaching Exotic Fishes From Orang NP
Guwahati: At least two poachers were detained for trying to steal exotic fish species at the Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam on Friday.
Police reportedly took three distinct fish species from their possession.
According to officials, the fish are renowned for being incredibly beautiful and are known locally as Burka Cheng or Pipli Cheng.
A police team from the Mangaldoi Sadar Police Station led the operation during which the poachers were caught.
They have been identified as Rafiqul Islam and Abdul Rashid.
Later, the police handed them over to the forest department along with the fish they had collected so that they could be charged with violating conservation rules.
Officials informed that the fish have a black-market value of about Rs 25,000.
