Two Dubai Returnees Test Positive for COVID-19 at Chennai Airport amid Omicron BF.7 scare

Guwahati: Two travellers arriving from Dubai were reported to have COVID-19 at the airport in Chennai on Wednesday. “Both passengers hail from Pudukottai district’s Alangudi. Their test samples have been sent to State Public Health Laboratory”, said Tamil Nadu Health Department.

Prior to this, a woman and her six-year-old daughter who travelled from China to Virudhunagar through Sri Lanka and had an RT-PCR test at the airport in Madurai both tested positive.

Tamil Nadu, which has been reporting an average of 10 Covid instances per day, experienced a slight increase in weekly cases with Tuesday’s report of 55 cases compared to last week’s 47. Tamil Nadu only had 51 active Covid 19 cases as of Tuesday.

On the other hand, health minister Ma Subramanian reassured the populace that there was no cause for alarm after viewing the mock drill for Covid-19 preparation at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and speaking to reporters.

The Union Health Ministry has instructed all the state governments to undertake a mock drill to guarantee the availability of hospital beds, oxygen concentrators, and liquid medical oxygen tanks on Tuesday.

Subramanian stated that the government medical college hospitals, district hospitals, taluk and non-taluk hospitals should be instructed to have a proper assessment of their infrastructure and report back to the state Health Department in accordance with a directive from the Union Health Ministry to the state health departments.

The advisory came following the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in countries like China, Japan, South Korea, France, Italy, Germany, and Brazil.
