Two TMC leaders attacked in separate incidents in West Bengal
Guwahati: Two Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders were reportedly attacked on Wednesday in West Bengal in two separate incidents just days after a TMC panchayat leader was killed in Birbhum district, resulting in an arson attack that killed eight others.
A newly-elected councillor identified as Roopa Sarkar from Hooghly’s Tarakeswar was allegedly hit by a car.
According to national media reports, Sarkar was riding her bike home when she was hit from behind by a maruti van. She was taken to hospital with severe injuries.
In another incident, a local TMC leader was shot in West Bengal’s Nadia.
The victim has been identified as Sahadev Mandal, a local TMC politician and spouse of Bogula Gram Panchayat No 2 member Anima Mandal.
As per reports, Sahadeva was rescued by the locals and was sent to Bagula Health Center.
Later, he was shifted to Krishnanagar Shakti Nagar Hospital for better treatment.
It may be mentioned that at least 10 people were burnt alive in a single residence after a mob set their houses on fire in Birbhum district of West Bengal on March 22.
The incident took place after the alleged murder of a Trinamool Congress leader who served as the panchayat chief in Birbhum.
Following the assassination of the TMC leader, an enraged crowd set fire to 10 to 12 homes in the Bogtui village on the outskirts of Rampurhat late last night.
It needs to be noted that at least 22 people have been arrested in the case.
