ULFA-I Cadre Shot Dead By Security Forces After Fierce Encounter In Assam’s Tinsukia
Guwahati: A hardcore militant of United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) was shot dead during a gun battle in Tinsukia district of Assam on Thursday morning.
This was informed by officials.
As per information received, that ULFA-I cadre has been identified as Uday Asom.
It has come to the fore that a five-member group of the insurgent outfit had been laying camp at Tikak hill in Ledo near Margherita in Tinsukia district of Assam.
According to officials, another cadre has also been injured in the gunfight apart from Uday Asom.
Police and security personnel have gheraoed the whole area and are conducting a search operation to expel the remaining militants.
Moreover, officials said that arms and ammunition including a pistol, a rifle, two grenades and other materials used in making improvised explosive device (IEDs) were recovered from the spot. Security forces also recovered a bag, a blanket and some medicines from there.
The slain Uday Asom was a key player in extortion in Upper Assam and one of the most significant field commanders of the ULFA ops group, according to officials.
Furthermore, the operation against the militants has been kept ongoing and more details are awaited in that regard.
It should be mentioned that a confrontation between police and members of the United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) earlier in the day caused a tense situation to develop in Margherita of Assam.
Initial reports state that the incident occurred at Tikak Parbat in Ledo near Margherita town in the Tinsukia district of Assam.
A team of police authorities launched an operation to apprehend the ULFA-I cadres after obtaining information that they were hiding there.
However, after reaching the spot, gunfire broke out between both parties in which several are thought to have been killed. According to authorities, the firing started in the early hours of this morning.
