UM Ashwini Vaishnaw Makes India’s First 5G Call

Guwahati: Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made the first 5G call using indigenously created technology on a trial network built up at IIT Madras on Thursday.

The minister for railways, communications, electronics and information technology, Vaishnaw tweeted, “Aatmanirbhar 5G successfully tested 5G call at IIT Madras. The entire end-to-end network is designed and developed in India.

Through a video call the minister said, “This is a realisation of PM’s ambition. His ambition is for India to build and manufacture its own 4G and 5G technology stack for the rest of the globe. With this new technology stack, we have to dominate the world.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a 5G test bed to establish a multi-institute collaboration project coordinated by IIT Madras, with a total of eight institutes participating.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the project cost more than Rs 220 crore to develop.

According to ANI, it will provide a supportive ecosystem for Indian industry and entrepreneurs, allowing them to evaluate their 5G and next-generation technologies products, prototypes, solutions, and algorithms.

The Chennai Egmore (MS) Railway Station and Egmore Metro Rail Station were also visited by the union minister.

He stated, “All large and medium-sized railway stations will be renovated. The railway stations at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and Rani Kamlapati, Madhya Pradesh, are now world-class.”

“We’re occupying a lot more stations. In Tamil Nadu, we are investing close to Rs 2000 crore in Chennai Egmore, Madurai, Katpadi Junction, Rameswaram, and Kanyakumari,” Vaishnaw said.

He also stated that the goal is to preserve the legacy and make it world-class so that it may serve as a centre of economic activity.
