Unacademy Faculty terms Tribal Farmers as “Brainless”
Guwahati: A video is doing rounds on social media showing a faculty of Unacademy, an online learning platform calling tribal farmers “brainless”.
In the UPSC training video, a faculty named Sidhharth Singh from Unacademy while talking about Jhum Cultivation in his lecture session, made a racist remark on tribal farmers.
In the video he was shown saying, “what happens during Jhum cultivation is that these tribal people we have, these people neither have brains nor property or land documentation.”
After a netizen brought out the racist remark, the video was taken down from YouTube. However, it appears that deleting the video was too late, since the contentious portion had already gone viral on social media.
Talking about the racism comment by the faculty, the Chairman of The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) wrote on Twitter, “I urge upon the CM of different states of Northeast and diff parts of India to write against this education which is being imparted to our students. Racism exists in this country no matter how many times we try to deny it.”
It may be mentioned that few weeks ago a GradeUp teacher was seen on an old online video session calling Gamosa an animal, which went viral.
