Guwahati: Staff members at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Friday found a person unconscious on the campus.
It was first impossible to determine who the patient was as the medical personnel hurried him to the emergency care department for treatment.
The person is reportedly believed to have leaped off the top of the GMCH building. Police eventually came to learn who he was after being threatened over the incident.
The person was identified as Garga Patowary, a resident of Sarthebari in the Barpeta district of Assam. His age has been confirmed by authorities to be 48.
Further investigation found that he was at GMCH as a caregiver for Maheswar Deka, a patient who had just been hospitalised to the cardiology ward.
Hospital authorities informed that his guardian has been alerted and his sibling has arrived at casualty.
The Superintendent of GMCH also stated that Patowary’s condition is reportedly critical.
