Union Cabinet Approves ‘PM eBus Sewa’ Scheme to Boost City Bus Operations
National Desk, 16th August: In a significant move aimed at enhancing city bus operations and promoting eco-friendly transportation, the Union cabinet granted approval to the ‘PM eBus Sewa’ scheme on Wednesday. The scheme, with an allocation of Rs 57,613 crores, intends to deploy a total of 10,000 electric buses across 169 cities in India.
Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sports, and Youth Affairs, spoke to the media following the union cabinet meeting and emphasised the decision’s favourable effects on public transit and its compatibility with India’s climate change objectives. PM e-Bus Seva has been approved, according to Thakur. The cost will be Rs. 57,613 crores. There will be about 10,000 new electric buses available nationwide.
The scheme is primarily geared towards cities with populations exceeding three lakh, with special consideration for areas lacking organized bus services. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to improving urban transportation and contributing to a cleaner environment.
