Union Home Minister Amit Shah Meets Manipur Governor
National Desk, 30 May: Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey during his visit to the violent state of Manipur on Monday. Amit Shah arrived on Monday in Imphal, Manipur to begin a four-day stay. Amit Shah was greeted by Manipur CM N Biren Singh at the airport who remarked that his coming had increased public trust.
According to reports, he presided over a meeting with the state chief minister, ministers, senior leaders and officials as soon as he arrived in the state to assess the existing state of affairs and map out the next course of action to restore normalcy.
Throughout his visit to the state till June 1, Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to hold numerous rounds of negotiations.
Earlier this week, on his visit to Assam a bordering state Amit Shah revealed plans to travel to the northeastern state. Recent events in Manipur were marked by a huge commotion and conflict between local populations.
While this was going on, Army mobilized three columns on Sunday to set up numerous Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP) and capture the criminals in advance of Amit Shah’s visit in response to specific intelligence about armed miscreants venturing out in the open with the intent of carrying out premeditated attacks on security forces in the vicinity of the City Convention Centre in Imphal East.
Assam Rifles provided protection as nearly 2,000 Meitei villagers were transported from Serou to the Pangaltabi relief camp during a significant evacuation effort coordinated by the Army, Assam Rifles, police, State Administration and Civil Society Organisations.
