Union Home Minister Amit Shah Reaches Northeast

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Northeast on Saturday to attend the 50 years’ celebration of North Eastern Council (NEC) on December 18.

He was received at the Guwahati airport by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with traditional gamusa.

Apart from the golden jubilee celebration, he is also scheduled to attend a public meeting which will be held at Polo Ground in Shillong.

Taking to Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “Honoured to have received Adarniya Union HM Shri @AmitShah ji at LGBI Airport, Guwahati. Hon HM’s presence is always inspiring and an encouragement for us to work with renewed vigour for holistic growth of Assam and the North East.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive on Sunday for the occasion.

It should be noted that North Eastern Council (NEC) was established by an Act of the Parliament in 1971. It was formally inaugurated on 7th November, 1972 at Shillong, and completed 50 years in November 2022.
