Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Pledges Development Focus on Northeast India

Guwahati, 12th July: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia arrived in Guwahati today for his inaugural visit as the Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). Expressing his deep-rooted connections with the region, Scindia emphasized his commitment to accelerating development initiatives across Northeast India.

Scindia’s agenda includes a crucial meeting with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to strategize developmental plans for Shillong, the capital city. This marks their first interaction to outline a comprehensive strategy leveraging resources from DoNER and other ministries.

Addressing the media upon his arrival, Scindia expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP party leadership for entrusting him with this responsibility. He underscored his mission to realize the Prime Minister’s vision of “Purvodaya,” positioning the Northeast as India’s gateway to progress.

Highlighting significant budgetary increases, Scindia noted a surge in outlays from Rs 24,000 crores to nearly Rs 82,000 crores, aimed at bolstering infrastructure including roads, rail networks, and civil aviation. He emphasized the region’s strategic importance under India’s Act East policy, intending to showcase its cultural richness and environmental diversity to the global stage.

“The Northeast is a repository of cultural vibrance, natural abundance, and ethical ethos,” Scindia remarked, affirming its pivotal role in the Act East policy’s implementation.

Scindia’s visit signals renewed efforts towards holistic development in Northeast India, aiming to harness its potential as a hub of growth and connectivity in South Asia.
