UPPL: Response to False Allegation of Curbing the Land Rights of Non-Tribals by Taison Hussain

Guwahati: Several print, electronic and social media has carried a news of the press briefing by ABMSU, leader Md. Taison Hussain of accusing the present BTR Government of curbing land rights of the non-tribals. It appears that person who made such misleading claims is politically motivated, devoid of any basis and far from any truth.

In a press release by Raju Narzary, General Secretary of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) said that, “We condemn this false statement made by Md. Taison Hussain, as opposed to his false claims, present BTR Government led by Pramod Boro has given land rights to all the communities in the region by issuing a notification No. BTC/LR/415/2021/ 1 dated 25th of August 2021 on providing land rights by inheritance which was one of the most progressive decisions taken in any sixth scheduled area. Further the BTR Government has provided land patta to 3744 families belonging to different caste, communities, linguistic and religious groups. Applications for land patta for another batch of 15000 families of different communities are at its final stage of approval. Hence, making false allegations to mislead the public thereby creating fear and enmities amongst Scheduled Tribe and Non-Tribals is very unfortunate and highly condemnable. We urge upon Hussain to refrain from making unfounded claims and false allegations against the Pramod Boro led UPPL-BJP-GSP government. We appeal to the general public not to pay heed to such false allegations and cooperate with the government in ensuring peace, stability and development in the region.”

He further stated that in the BTC accord of 2003, under clause 4.3 (a), (b) land rights of all the community’s and families who lived in the region prior to the signing of the accord is protected.

Narzary also mentioned that Taison Hussain has the habit of making such false allegation and cited that before the recent BTR election, he misled the public by saying all non-tribal will be evicted under clause 7.2 of BTR Accord, which proved to be big false in just short span. While the UPPL-BJP-GSP government in BTR has ensured peace and stability, such irresponsible statement by a student leader is unwarranted.

It may be mentioned that there has been no change of the land and revenue related laws except the notification for natural right over the land by inheritance which has made transfer of land much easier.
