Verbal battle Breaks out between NPP & BJP over JJM’s inclusion of census town In Meghalaya

Guwahati: The NPP and the BJP got into a fight over the BJP’s claim that census towns were included in the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) programme meant to address water shortages.

The public display of coalition members’ disagreements during the ceremony to lay the cornerstone for the Mawpat Water Supply Scheme expansion was set in motion by the on-stage fighting.

The NPP’s accusation was brushed aside by the BJP as a bluff.

The inclusion of all census towns in Meghalaya under the JJM was advocated by the NPP-led administration, according to NPP national president and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, to address water shortages and satisfy rising water needs.

“The inclusion of all Census Towns in Jal Jeevan Mission in Meghalaya as pursued by the NPP-led Govt. will curtail water scarcity & cater to the growing water requirements. Urge team @jjmmeghalaya to ensure implementation of the works at the earliest”, chief minister Conrad Sangma tweeted on January 14.
