Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar Addresses 18th Convocation of Mizoram University

Northeast Desk, 26th February: Jagdeep Dhankar, the Vice President of India, today graced and delivered a speech at the 18th Convocation of Mizoram University held on the campus. The event was attended by distinguished guests including Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and Prof. Prakash Bartunia. Before the convocation program began, the Vice President planted the sapling of the state tree, Media Ferrea, upon his arrival at the MZU Campus.

In his address, Vice President Dhankar congratulated the hardworking students who are reaping the rewards of their efforts today. He encouraged them to recognize the privilege of being part of a generation witnessing India’s rapid growth and development, aiming for Viksit Bharat 2047. Dhankar highlighted the entrepreneurial opportunities available in India’s thriving ecosystem and urged students, especially from Mizoram, to explore the state’s vast tourism potential and leverage opportunities arising from the Act East Policy.

The Vice President commended the increasing number of women achievers, emphasizing their significant contributions to society. Following the convocation’s opening declaration by Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, Registrar of MZU, Vice Chancellor welcomed the dignitaries, students, and faculty members. The convocation proceeded with the conferral of degrees, gold medals, and prizes, with a select group of candidates receiving their honors from the Vice President.

Among the awards presented were 110 Doctor of Philosophy degrees, 518 Master’s degrees, 141 Master’s Professional degrees, 271 Bachelor’s degrees with Professional Courses, 56 Gold Medals, and 7 Book Prizes. A total of 1104 candidates received their degrees in person, while 6876 candidates were absent. Overall, 7980 degrees were awarded during the 18th Convocation of Mizoram University.
