Tripura Legislative Assembly to Begin Budget Session on March 1

Northeast Desk, 26th February: The Tripura Legislative Assembly is gearing up to initiate its budget session on March 1, with plans to wrap up proceedings before the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Today, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced the decision following a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) held on Friday, chaired by Legislative Assembly Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen.

According to Minister Nath, the budget session, slated to kick off on March 1, will span until March 5, strategically incorporating a break on March 2 and 3. The accelerated timeline is driven by the potential anticipation of Lok Sabha elections, prompting the Assembly to swiftly address essential matters. The inaugural day of the session will witness the presentation of additional expense allocations, followed by the formal budget presentation. Subsequently, the Tripura Public Demand Recovery Act Amendment Bill will be introduced. On March 4, the ratification of additional expenses allocation and the passage of the Tripura Public Demand Recovery Act Amendment Bill are scheduled. Concurrently, discussions on the proposed budget will commence.

The Minister highlighted that the session’s final day, March 5, will be dedicated to the continuation of deliberations on the proposed budget. In the afternoon session, the proposed budget is slated for approval. This condensed timeline underscores the Assembly’s commitment to efficiently conduct legislative affairs amidst the dynamic political landscape, ensuring the timely conclusion of the budget session before the Damama Bazar elections.
