Violence breaks out in Manipur’s Churachandpur, section 144 CrPC imposed
Guwahati: An unusual outbreak of violence occurred in Churachandpur district of Manipur on Wednesday.
According to reports, protesters flocked to the streets in large numbers, clashing with police.
The demonstrators requested that Dr Mark Thangmang Haokip, a Manipur-based human rights campaigner be released immediately.
Dr. Mark Thangmang Haokip, a human rights campaigner from Manipur was arrested in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The protestors in Manipur’s Churachandpur threw stones at security forces when they were halted from marching towards the deputy commissioner’s office.

Meanwhile, police in Manipur’s Churachandpur district have stated that the situation is currently under control.
Section 144 CrPC has been implemented in Churachandpur of Manipur to prevent further aggravation of the situation.
Dr. Mark Thangmang Haokip was arrested on Tuesday in New Delhi after failing to attend to a summons issued by the police in connection with a case filed against him.
The head of the Manipur chapter of the International Human Rights Association (IHRA) Dr. Mark Thangmang Haokip was arrested from his residence in Kishangarh of New Delhi on Tuesday afternoon.
The police in Manipur’s Churachandpur district filed a FIR against him under section 153-A/505(2) of the Indian Penal Code, alleging that he promoted enmity between different groups or communities based on race, place of birth, language, or regional groups, among other things, and that he made statements that created or promoted enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes.
The arrest of Haokip happened at a time when many groups had already organised protests against the case against him.
A conflict between police and demonstrators occurred in front of the Churachandpur police station on May 22.
