Voters return back on boats after casting their votes

Guwahati: Voting for Tripura’s 60 Assembly constituencies got underway at 7 am on February 16. Voters from far and wide, both young and elderly arrived at their various polling places to cast their votes as voting progressed.

In the midst of this, a group of boat-riding voters from the Dhalai district’s Dumboor Lake arrived to cast their ballots.

On social media, images of a bunch of happy young voters riding back in boats are popular.

After casting their ballots, the voters and the boatman headed back to their homes while holding their voter ID cards.

According to statistics, 51.42 percent of voters had turned out as of 1 pm.

Even though voting for 60 Assembly seats is taking place amid heightened security, there have been isolated acts of violence recorded in some polling places in Tripura.

After casting his ballot in Agartala, the former chief minister Sarkar stated that he had learned that polling agents of the Left Front were not permitted to enter the polling stations at Bhabanipur, Nidaya, KK Nagar, and Nirbhoypur under the Dhanpur Assembly Constituency and that anyone who did so was attacked and thrown outside the polling places.

“Voters started mobilizing. In many places, BJP-backed miscreants tried to prevent the voters. From Agartala, we immediately informed Chief Electoral Officer and said he is taking up the matter. We tried to contact the Additional Returning Officer (AROs) but were unable to connect with him at the same time another AROs said they can’t handle such small things as he is in the strong room. So the point is at morning why he is in a strong room in the morning”, alleged Sarkar.
