Water level of Brahmaputra rises at warning level in Guwahati due to rainfall

Guwahati: The water level of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati has risen to a dangerous level due to relentless rains over the last few days. The water level has risen to a height of 19 centimetres.

According to reports, the water level in the Brahmaputra River surged to 48.61cm. The Brahmaputra’s upstream water level is 48.90cm, while the downstream water level is 48.80cm.

Minister of Guwahati Development Department (GDD) Ashok Singhal examined the Bharalu River’s water pumps and sluice gate on Friday. The minister directed the staff to ensure that the Bharalu River’s sluice gate is in good working order.

“Today inspected the water pumps and sluice gate of Bharalu river and instructed the officials to ensure the sluice gate of Bharalu river functions smoothly to avoid any hindrance to the flow of water from Guwahati city,” the minister said in a tweet.

Notably, the recent floods in the state have displaced around 11.09 lakh people across 25 districts and 72 revenue circles.

The water levels of the Manas, Pagladiya, Puthimari, Kopili, Gaurang, and Brahmaputra rivers are also over the danger limit in several parts of Assam.

Meanwhile, water logging has brought most of Guwahati to a halt as a result of the continuous rain. Throughout addition, several landslides have been reported in the city.
