West Bengal: 7 Dead, Several Critical After Consuming Spurious Liquor in Howrah

Guwahati: At least seven persons has died on Wednesday morning in the Howrah district of West Bengal after allegedly ingesting fake alcohol at an illegal booze den.

Six more patients, some of whom are in critical condition have reportedly been admitted to a local hospital.

“As many as seven people passed away this morning, and many more got sick. According to the initial evidence, the incident in Howrah seems to have taken place after the consumption of illegal alcohol,” Howrah Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar Tripathi informed ANI.

“A hospital is providing medical care for six persons. After the post-mortem, the precise cause of death can be determined,” he continued.

Police stated that they have not yet determined the precise reason of the occurrence, but that they are looking into it.

The death of four people last week in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district, purportedly brought on by the ingestion of fake alcohol, caused alarm among the populace. While the police insisted that they were awaiting the results of the autopsy, numerous hotels and restaurants in the town were raided.
