Wife of Forest Guard to Receive Rs 5 Lakhs In Assam-Meghalaya Firing Incident
Guwahati: A grant of Rs. 5 lakhs will be given to the wife of Vidyasingh Lekthe, the forest guard who died in the shooting incident at the Assam-Meghalaya border.
According to reports, the fund will be provided from the Karbi Anglong District Health Council Relief Fund.
The Meghalaya administration sent the forest guard’s body to the Assam authorities in Khanduli on Wednesday.
Lekthe’s funeral ceremonies will be conducted with military majesty on Friday.
It should be noted that on Tuesday morning, shooting broke out at Mukhrow under Jirikinding PS in West Karbi Anglong District between Assam Forest Officials and unidentified miscreants. According to reports, the incident happened when the Forest Party tried to halt a truck carrying illicit timber.
When the forest party workers halted the truck, they were attacked by gheraoed miscreants who used violence. The woodland party turned to gunfire in an effort to save their lives. Three civilians and one forest guard perished in the incident.
