SC questions Centre’s ‘haste’ in appointing Arun Goel as Election Commissioner

Guwahati: The Supreme Court on November 24 noted that the file relating to the appointment of Arun Goel, an IAS officer from the 1985 batch, as the Election Commissioner was cleared at “lightning speed.”

The Centre through Attorney General R Venkataramani asked the court to “hold its mouth” and asked it to look into the matter completely after the top court noted that the paperwork referring to Goel’s appointment was cleared with “lightning speed.”

The Supreme Court requested information from the Centre in order to investigate Goel’s appointment.
