Pak PM Names Former ISI chief Lt Gen Syed Asim Munir as new Army chief

Guwahati: Former chief of the inter-services intelligence (ISI) Lt General Syed Asim Munir has been appointed as the new chief of the Pakistan Army.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif.

Appointment of Lt General Syed Asim Munir as the new chief of the Pakistan Army was approved by Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the current head of the Pakistani Army, will be replaced by former ISI commander Lt. General Syed Asim Munir.

On November 29, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, 61, will leave his position.

Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza, on the other hand has been chosen to lead the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).

Both officers were promoted to four-star generals as well.

Additionally, both officers received promotions to four-star generals.

Notably, the Pakistan Army ruled for more than 50 of the nation’s 75 years of existence.

In terms of security and foreign policy, it has a lot of influence.
