Guwahati: A 36-year-old lady in Manipur’s Kakching district became a victim of a fight between a shop owner and a customer as she was accidentally shot dead on December 23.
The woman was identified as Moirangthem Jemi Devi, wife of M Kiran Singh of Pallel Mamang Leikai, while the accused was identified as Kongkham Birjit Singh of Mayang, Imphal.
The incident took place on December 23 around 10 PM when the shopkeeper and the customer Singh got into a fight. Singh then threatened the shopkeeper by firing a shot but the bullet struck the woman instead.
She was taken to a hospital right away where medical staff declared her dead.
It has come to light that the accused is an MPTO employee who is stationed in Pallel and who fled the site of the murder.
However, the Kakching district superintendent of police (SP) said that the accused had been arrested and put into custody for further investigation.
”It is confirmed that the weapon used in the shooting incident was not a service weapon,” he told.
