Wuhan Scientists warn of New Covid variant “NeoCov”
Guwahati: A group of Chinese scientists in Wuhan recently issued a warning about a novel coronavirus type known as NeoCov, which is presently spreading in South Africa.
The new strain is thought to be linked to the ‘MERS-COV’ Middle East respiratory disease.
According to a report by the Russian news outlet Sputnik, NeoCoV which was first discovered in bats in South Africa, has a high death and transmission rate.
NeoCov was detected in epidemics in Middle Eastern nations in 2012 and 2015. NeoCoV can’t be healed by antibodies or protein molecules made by persons with respiratory disorders because it has a potentially high fatality rate.
Experts from the Russian State Virology and Biotechnology Research Center have already published a statement stating that the potential concerns indicated must be further investigated.
This comes after Maria van Kerkhove, the WHO’s technical lead on Covid-19, stated that Omicron will not be the last coronavirus variant, and that there may be more in the future.
