Zoram People’s Movement Celebrates Victory as Baryl Vanneihsangi Tlau Triumphs in Aizawl South-III

Northeast Desk, 4th December: In the recent Mizoram Assembly elections, Baryl Vanneihsangi Tlau of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) clinched victory in the Aizawl South-III constituency, securing 9,370 votes on December 4, 2023.

This marked a notable turnaround from the previous election, where F. Lalnunmawia of the Mizo National Front (MNF) emerged victorious.

Vanneihsangi’s win saw her outperform F. Lalnunmawia, who had won the seat in the previous election with a margin of 2088 votes, polling 7,956 votes.

In 2018, a total of 17,398 males and 8,713 females exercised their voting rights in the Aizawl South-III seat.

The Mizoram Assembly elections held on November 7, 2023, recorded a voter turnout of 78.40%. The ZPM, part of a six-party alliance, achieved a sweeping victory by leading in 26 of the 40 seats, securing a majority and signaling an independent government formation in Mizoram.

This outcome marks a historic shift in Mizoram’s governance, establishing the ZPM as a significant force in the state’s political landscape.
