12th Manipur Legislative Assembly’s Fifth Session Begins with Governor’s Address

Northeast Desk, 28th February: The fifth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly commenced today, marked by Governor Anusuiya Uikey’s address to the House. In her speech, she outlined key priorities and government initiatives, setting the tone for the session’s proceedings.

Scheduled to run from February 28 to March 5, 2024, the 5th session is poised to address a wide range of legislative and financial matters crucial to the state’s governance and development.

The assembly will begin by paying tribute to departed individuals who have made significant contributions to the state, during the Obituary References event. This will be followed by the review of the Business Advisory Committee Report and the Presentation of Supplementary Demands for Grants, 2023-24, along with the presentation of budget estimates for 2024.

The day’s proceedings will culminate with a critical Motion for Vote on Accounts, 2024-25, aimed at ensuring the state’s financial stability and continuity of essential services.

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, the assembly will engage in an interactive questions and answers session and deliberate on the Supplementary Demands for Grants, 2023-24. Following this, a comprehensive Discussion and Voting on Motion for Vote on Accounts, 2024 will take place, along with the introduction of the Manipur Appropriation Bill(s).

Friday, March 1, 2024, will see discussions on the Presentation of Committee Reports and the introduction of Government Bill(s). The session will conclude with the Consideration and Passing of Manipur Appropriation Bill(s), providing a platform for members to present and discuss Private Members’ Business.
