2 Killed After Landslide Hits in Assam’s Cachar

Guwahati: Two people have been buried beneath the rubble after a landslide struck in Cachar district of Assam on Sunday.

The incident has been reported from the Borakhai tea estate following days of nonstop rain.

According to reports, two people died immediately when a house was trapped by mud from the hills.

The deceased duo has been identified as 19-year-old Champa Ri and 50-year-old Shibu Ri.

Rescue efforts were carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), with assistance from the locals who helped to retrieved the bodies from the rubble.

The bodies have been shifted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem report.

It may be noted that 62 persons have already perished this year as a result of floods and the resulting landslides in Assam.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), out of 62 persons, 51 died in floods and 11 died in landslides so far.
