2 workers killed at ropeway work site in West Sikkim

Guwahati: The last days of the year have turned tragic in the northeastern state of Sikkim. At least two workers were killed after a ropeway wall that was still under construction fell in Pelling of West Sikkim on Saturday.

The incident took place when a when a total of five workers were constructing a safety wall at the Ropeway construction site in Pelling when mudslides suddenly happened.

Three workers managed to escape the mudslide after it occurred while two others died on the spot after being buried in the mound. 

The deceased’s postmortem was performed at District Hospital Gyalshing, and after that the deceased’s dead body was handed over to their legal guardian maintaining proper handing taking. 

The other two workers identified as Sambad Ray and Basanta Roy were referred to a higher center for better medical attention. 

However, the condition of the worker named Sanjit Adhikari is stable. 

As per the preliminary investigation, at least eleven workers were working at the construction site at Sanga Choeling Pelling under the supervision of Santosh Chettri of Chingthang, Barphok.
