27 Persons Reported Missing Amid Ethnic Conflicts in Manipur
Northeast Desk, 28th July: Amid the ongoing ethnic conflicts in Manipur, distressing news has emerged as 27 individuals have reportedly gone missing. Among the missing are two journalists, several minors, and women, leaving families and communities in deep concern.
Atom Samarendra Singh (47) and Yumkhaibam Kirankumar Singh (48), both prominent voices in the media landscape, have been recognised as the two missing journalists.
The age range of the missing persons varies from 17 years to 47 years, encompassing a diverse group of individuals affected by the violence and unrest.
These 27 people have been unaccounted for since the months of May, June, and July, with their disappearances reported from various violence-hit locations in Manipur, such as Bishnupur, Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Tengnoual, Kangpokpi, Thoubal, and Chandel.
The cases have been lodged in different police stations across the state, highlighting the magnitude of the issue and the urgency for investigation and resolution.
In response to the distressing situation, the Manipur Government is actively working to gather data concerning the missing persons, with a focus on tribal communities that have been deeply impacted by the ongoing conflicts.
