CBI Takes Over Investigation into Manipur Viral Video

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has opened an investigation into the horrifying viral video incident in which two women were paraded in Manipur while naked, reports emerged on Saturday.
According to the investigating agency, a FIR filed by the Manipur Police has been taken over and an investigation has begun.
As per reports, the CBI team will question the arrested suspect.
Reportedly, a senior-level officer oversaw the formation of a SIT previously to look into the issue, and CBI agents who are now in Manipur would look into other cases, including the one involving the viral video.
It should be noted that the CBI received the viral video case from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday.
Notably, the Manipur Police have arrested seven suspects in connection to the horrifying incident that happened on May 4, although the video only started to circulate on social media on July 19.
According to Manipur Police, the video was purportedly captured on May 4 in B Phainom village in Kangpokpi district, where both women were allegedly gang-raped after the entire the village was set on fire.
However, the police further stated that the incident took place in another district, despite the fact that the first information report (FIR) was submitted in Kangpokpi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi eventually spoke out about the matter after more than two months of silence when the video went viral and caused uproar across the nation.
Since May 3, around 160 people have died and 40,000 have been displaced due to ethnic violence in Manipur. Conflicts are occurring between the Kuki group, which has tribal ties to many parts of the state, and the main Meitei community.
