8 killed 25 injured in road accident in Karnataka

Guwahati: At least eight people were killed and 25 others injured in a road accident in Hubballi-Dharwad district of Karnataka on Tuesday.

The incident took place at around 12.30 am to 1 am on the outskirts of Hubballi near Tarihal on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway.

According to reports, the collision occurred between a truck carrying rice bags and a private bus.

In the incident, six people died on the spot and two succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

The injured were rushed to the KIMS hospital in Hubli for better treatment.

Reportedly, the bus was heading towards Bengaluru and was coming from Kolhapur while the lorry was travelling from Dharwad when the incident occurred.

Reportedly, the bus driver was attempting to overtake a tractor when the tragedy occurred.

Meanwhile, police have filed an accident report and launched an investigation into the matter.

It needs to be mentioned that the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
