Repeal AFSPA from Naga Lands: Global Naga Forum

Guwahati: The Global Forum has asked the Indian Government to immediately and permanently repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from “Naga Homelands”.

The forum claimed that the act is violating the human rights of the Nagaland people.

In a press statement, the Forum added, “The government of India has extended the AFSPA act again in the state, and the reasons only known to the government. Extending the Act is just empowering the military and the state government. The Governor is also the Interlocutor of the Indo-Naga Peace Negotiation, the same governor who is working against the principle of the Framework Agreement of the ongoing negotiation and creating further division among the Nagas.”

The forum further added that the extension of the Act left Naga people with certain questions in their minds. One of the questions being that why was the Act imposed again in the state or if there is an agenda of the government?
