Assam’s Ex CM pays last respect to Gen Bipin Rawat
Guwahati: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal paid his last respects to the mortal remains of the late Indian Chief of Police General Bipin Rawat Baria and his wife Madhulika Rawat who left the country in mourning.
The funeral will take place at 4 p.m. Brigadier Lidder’s funeral would be held at 9 am. Following the tribute service, all of the bodies were to be taken to the Army hospital, Dhaula Kuan.
At a solemn ceremony on Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Army Chief MM Naravane, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, Air Chief Marshal AVR Chaudhari, and Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar were among those who paid tribute to the departed.

At the Palam airport, heartbreaking sights were witnessed as 13 caskets were lined up inside a hangar in the presence of their family members. The prime minister also made contact with the deceased’s family members and spoke with them for a few minutes.
The 13 persons were killed when the helicopter crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, in an air disaster that shocked the nation. Around 7:35 p.m., an Indian Air Force C-130J Super Hercules transport plane transporting the bodies from the Sulur airbase landed at the Palam technical airport.
Gen Rawat and his wife, Madhulika Rawat, and Brigadier LS Lidder are the only three bodies that have been recognized thus far. According to army officials, the bodies of those who have been identified will be released to their families for final rites. The other bodies will be kept at the Army Base Hospital’s mortuary until they are identified.
