Northeast Desk, 10th September: In a successful joint operation, troops from the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya, collaborating with the Meghalaya police, have seized a substantial quantity of medicines, clothing, and glass frames valued at Rs 88 lakhs. These illicit goods were destined for smuggling into Bangladesh from the international border in South West Khasi Hills.
Acting on specific information, a team from the BSF’s 193rd Battalion, working in tandem with Meghalaya police, intercepted two Bolero pickups near the Gumaghat bordering area.
Both vehicles were found to be loaded with a significant quantity of medicines, sarees, and glass frames intended for illegal smuggling into Bangladesh. The drivers of these vehicles were taken into custody as they could not provide valid justifications or documents concerning the consignments they were transporting.
The apprehended individuals, along with the seized contraband, have been handed over to the relevant police station for further legal action.
This successful operation serves as a testament to the vigilance and collaborative efforts of security forces in curbing illicit activities along the international border.
