Assam: Two arrested With Over 200 kg ganja in Dhubri district

Guwahati, 29th February: In a significant operation conducted by Chagolia police in the Dhubri District, a substantial quantity of ganja, or cannabis, was seized. The operation resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the confiscation of illegal materials.

Acting on a tip-off, Chagolia police conducted naka checking on National Highway 17, leading to the discovery of illicit substances concealed in two cars, a Nexon and a Baleno. A staggering 203.75 kg of ganja, packed into 46 bundles, was found hidden in the vehicles, which bore licence plates TR-05F-0772 and TR-01BH-0787, respectively.

In-charge Sub-Inspector Hirakjyoti Das stated that the suspected smugglers, identified as Raj Kumar Sarkar and Bijay Das, residents of Tripura, were apprehended during the operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two vehicles were traveling from Agartala in Tripura to Siliguri in West Bengal. It is suspected that the illicit cargo was intended for distribution in the West Bengal region, according to Sub-Inspector Das.

The successful operation highlights the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat illicit drug trafficking activities in the region and underscores the importance of collaborative efforts to maintain law and order.
