AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi Given ‘Z’ Security
Guwahati: Asaduddin Owaisi, a member of Parliament and the leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) was given Z category security cover today, a day after shots were fired at his car as he returned to Delhi from a campaign stop in Meerut of Uttar Pradesh.
After evaluating the threat level in light of last night’s attack, the government decided to give him Z category security from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to police, two persons were arrested in Meerut’s Kithoudh neighbourhood for firing at his convoy.
The arrested have been identified as Sachin and Shubham.
Sachin is a resident of Noida who was previously charged with attempted murder. While he claims to have a legal degree, authorities are checking to see if this is true.
Sachin further claims to be a member of a Hindu right-wing organisation on his Facebook page, according to police, who are examining the claim.
Meanwhile, Shubham is a farmer from Saharanpur with no criminal background.
According to police, the two told them during questioning that they were offended by Owaisi’s and his brother, MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi’s remarks.
They had lately purchased country-made pistols, which were retrieved by police. The folks from whom the rifles were purchased are now being sought by police.
The accused will now be brought before a judge, and police will demand their arrest.
Mr. Owaisi’s photos from the toll plaza showed two gunshot holes in his white SUV, which is still parked there. The third bullet is said to have struck a tire. In a different car, the MP left the area.
While campaigning for the Uttar Pradesh election, which begins on February 10, the AIMIM leader spoke at a public assembly in Meerut.
