Assam: 17 Local Football Team Players Injured In Road Mishap
Guwahati: At least 17 persons including members of a local football team has been injured in a terrible road accident that occurred on the national highway connecting Lanka and Lumding in Assam on Sunday.
The tragedy happened today at a ‘S-turn’ on NH 27 which runs between Lanka and Lumding in Assam’s Hojai district.
A freight-carrying Tata Magic vehicle carrying 30 people, including 18 football players was involved in an accident at the turn hurting numerous persons.
The vehicle was on its way from Lumding to Singjuri village in Sri Lanka.
According to reports, the football squad was slated to compete in the final of a competition in Sri Lanka, for which they were travelling.
Selis Coaching Centre from Lumding has been recognised as the football squad whose players were injured in the tragedy.
Meanwhile, 17 individuals were evacuated to the nearby Lanka primary health station, including the players who were hurt in the event.
Furthermore, five of the injured were said to be in critical condition, according to sources. They were shifted to Hojai’s Haji Abdul Majid Memorial (HAAM) Hospital for better treatment.
