Assam: Alleged Threats Escalate Tensions in Basistha Police Station Case
Guwahati, 24th April: In a disturbing development, Ankur Dutta, one of the accused in the bar case involving Basistha Police Station, has purportedly issued threats to another jawan associated with the station, identified as Pranjal Saikia.
Pranjal Saikia reported receiving threats via social media and phone calls, prompting him to file a First Information Report (FIR) at the Basistha Police Station. Despite the complaint, no investigative action has been taken thus far.
This latest development follows the earlier incident on April 21, where Ankur Dutta and other bar owners were accused of attempting to immolate a police jawan at THE ECHO PUB & GILL in Vashishta.
Ankur Dutta’s alleged threats against Pranjal Saikia have reverberated beyond the police department, exacerbating the already tense atmosphere stemming from the initial altercation at the bar.
The initial confrontation saw Pradeep Basumatary, a police officer from Basistha Police Station, subjected to a violent assault while responding to disturbances at the ECHO bar. The altercation escalated into a physical attack, with Basumatary being doused in diesel and set on fire.
This tragic incident, occurring in the early hours of April 21, underscores the perilous nature of law enforcement duties. Following the assault, two individuals, including the bar owner, have been apprehended, and investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The distressing episode serves as a poignant reminder of the risks faced by police officers in upholding law and order, highlighting the urgent need for bolstered support and safeguards for those who dedicate themselves to protecting our communities.
