Assam boy Amlan Borgohain bags gold at National Senior Athletics Championships
Sports Desk, 20 June: Assam youth Amlan Borgohain won the men’s 200-meter gold medal on Monday at the National Senior Athletics Championships held in Bhubaneshwar. Borgohain won the 200-meter gold with a time of 20.71 seconds which is a meet record. However, the sprinter failed to breach the Asian Games standard of 20.61 seconds.
With their outstanding performance at the third Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru in April of this year, Borgohain had also brought honour to the state.
In the men’s 100 and 200 meter races, Borgohain won both events with impressive times of 10.50 seconds for the 100-meter run and 21.22 seconds for the 200-meter run earning him two gold medals.
He also brought honour to the country with his amazing accomplishment by demonstrating his exceptional talent and tenacity.
At the All India Inter Railways Athletics Championships in Raebareli in August of last year, Borgohain, a 23-year-old sprinter from the Meleng village in Assam’s Jorhat district set the record for fastest man in the country by covering the 100 metres in 10.25 seconds.
He broke Amiya Mallick’s 10.26-second 100-meter national mark which he had established in 2016. Borgohain’s previous best time was 10.34 seconds, set last year.
