Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Enhances BJP’s Strategy in Jharkhand

Guwahati, 11th August: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, currently serving as the BJP’s election co-incharge for Jharkhand, has intensified his engagement with key political figures in the state ahead of the upcoming elections. Sarma recently met with Babulal Marandi, the state BJP president, and Sudesh Mahto, president of the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), underscoring the significance of the AJSU alliance.

“AJSU is our very important component,” Sarma declared following the meeting. “Everything is fine, and we will fight the elections well.”

Sarma also held discussions with BJP members at former state minister Nilkanth Singh Munda’s residence in Ranchi. Key attendees included Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri, former minister and BJP MLA Bhanu Pratap Shahi, and MLA Amit Mandal.

During a visit on August 2, Sarma expressed optimism about the BJP’s prospects, citing the enthusiasm among party workers. “The mantra for winning is to work 24 hours a day,” Sarma said. “For a better future in Jharkhand, we must win the assembly elections.”

Sarma has raised concerns over alleged land grabbing by “Bangladeshi infiltrators” affecting tribal communities, criticizing the current administration for failing to enforce court orders to return land to tribal families.

With the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly’s term ending in January 2025 and elections scheduled for the same year, the Election Commission has begun preparations. In the 2019 elections, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) formed a coalition government with Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), securing 47 of the 81 seats. The BJP aims to challenge this outcome in the upcoming election.
